Osborne graduates win at ICE communications competition

A team of Osborne’s civil engineering and rail graduates have taken top place in the Hampshire, West Sussex & Isle of Wight round of the Institute of Civil Engineers’ Graduate & Students Communication competition, held this week.

The team of James Buckley (Civil Engineering), Karl Page (Rail) and Nick Freeman (Rail) had to prepare, deliver and defend a public consultation for the proposed development of a port facility and associated infrastructure in the fictional town of Alebury, Cornwall. At the ‘mock’ public meeting, they successfully overcame some strong opposition from Graduate Teams from Colas and Amec and dealt with the rigorous ‘heckling’ from members of the audience in a professional manner.

The judges praised the team for their clear, professional and credible approach and sent them through to the competition semi-finals in April.

Team captain James Buckley said: “This was a really enjoyable and educational experience. We worked really well as a team and the five weeks of preparation we put in really showed on the night.”
