Bright opportunities with The Rainbow Project

Finding work at a young age is usually not an easy search, and it can be even tougher to attain coming from a disadvantaged background.

At Osborne’s Mayflower Halls site in Southampton however, we have been working alongside the charity The Rainbow Project to make this search for employment a simpler one for Kim Marsh.

Established in 1981, the Rainbow Project is a charity which provides a range of services to vulnerable and disadvantaged young people in Southampton. As part of the project, an initiative was launched called Life Chances, which, working alongside local businesses, aims at giving these people the opportunity to gain meaningful employment experience to increase their prospects of securing a job in the future.

Through Osborne’s work with the Life Chances contract, we were lucky enough to find Kim. Kim had not previously had any paid job or office experience, but her positive attitude demonstrated a willingness to learn. As such, we offered her a year’s role as an Administration Support Assistant at the Mayflower Halls site to develop her working skills and improve her employment opportunities.

Kim worked with us until earlier this month and has now secured a job working in administration within the construction industry.

Ann-Marie McCarthy, Chairperson at the Rainbow Project, expressed her thanks to Osborne for Kim’s opportunity, explaining:

“All of the staff at Osborne were so welcoming, supportive and inclusive of Kim over the last year. This opportunity will now springboard her into working life, and improve her future prospects without a doubt.”
