Workshop a Decorated Success

Two local families picked up some new DIY and decorating skills as Osborne hosted a free workshop in support of a new Dacorum Borough Council (DBC) initiative last month.
The DBC Tenant Academy, which will be officially launched on the 14th September, aims to develop new skills among local residents by signposting free courses and workshops delivered by its partners, including Osborne, across the Borough.

The ‘Family Decorating Day’, held in the new training centre at Osborne’s Maxted Road offices, saw two young families invited to spend a day learning skills in painting, wallpapering and basic DIY under the expert tuition of Osborne Senior Building Surveyor Garry Davidson and Carpenter Michael Cox.

The workshop was delivered as part of Osborne’s commitment to providing opportunities for local tenants through its purpose built training centre, whilst photos from the day will be used to help advertise further Tenant Academy workshops.

Osborne Community Investment Manager Hannah Bailey said: “We are delighted to be supporting the launch of the DBC Tenant Academy and look forward to providing further courses as part of the initiative alongside Dacroum Borough Council.

“The day was great fun and it was lovely to see both families really getting involved and enjoying the time together whilst learning new skills.”

Jenny Dickerson, Housing Involvement Officer at Dacorum Borough Council said: This was the first of what we hope will be many workshops we will be running in partnership with Osborne. They will give our tenants, leaseholders and those people living in our temporary accommodation the opportunity to improve their employability and enhance their wellbeing. This was rewarding and enjoyable day and everyone who attended really got stuck into the activities.
