First Students Move into Riverside Way in Winchester

Osborne Developments and Student Residence Investments Ltd welcomed the new student year arrivals at their latest student residential scheme at Riverside Way Winchester.
An opening ceremony was held on the 15th September by Osborne and was attended by Steve Brine MP for Winchester and Chandlers Ford and by members of the professional advisory teams  and local University representatives.

Steve Brine MP said: “I was hugely impressed by the sheer quality of the accommodation provided for new students arriving in our city. Things have changed a bit since I was a student in Liverpool in the 1990’s. River Side Way is superb so if the new development on Andover Road is similar, we’re going to be very well served. It was good to see that coming together and finally have progress on the new safe pedestrian route alongside it out of the station which has been a long-running issue for my constituents.”

The development comprises 211 premium single study en suite bedrooms in cluster flats of 7-9 bedrooms along with 28 studio flats and provides much needed local accommodation for the area.

Constructed by Osborne Construction and located adjacent to Winnall Moors Nature Reserve and the Itchen Way it features  high quality student study and social areas  and is centred around a secluded landscaped courtyard.

Demand for the direct let scheme has been very high and all the units were very quickly let to occupiers from  the nearby Winchester School of Art and  University of Winchester students.

The scheme is the second to be completed in the City with an earlier scheme in Burma Road comprising 499 rooms together with a laundry , café and gym having been leased to the University of Winchester and opened in 2013.

A further 237 unit scheme by Osborne and SRIL,  Cathedral Point is currently under construction at Andover Road and is  due for completion for the 2018 academic year. This will also be a direct let scheme managed by the developers and applications for residences will open early next year.

The development will also enable the opening up of a new dedicated pedestrian  access way from Andover Road through to the station which has long been an aspiration of the local community.
