Super Heroes Clean up Community Space

Osborne were pleased to support a team of ‘Super hero litter busters’ who took part in a community litter pick at Manor Park in Slough.
The park, a popular and valuable recreational space for all the community, got some TLC from over 40 volunteers, with young and old all keen to get involved and ‘do their bit’.

The Super Hero event, organised by local resident and Chairperson of Paving the Way, Sabeena Akram, with support from Slough Borough Council, generated a great sense of community cohesion with more and more volunteers coming out to help throughout the day.

Osborne were pleased to lend a hand as they get set to begin a partnership with Slough Borough Council to provide repairs, maintenance and investment services to over 7,000 local homes from December, with Community Investment Manager Neal Allison handing out ‘super hero’ masks to add to the sense of fun, as well as some more practical equipment.

Community Lead and Event Organiser Sabeena Akram said: ‘This activity created a real buzz in the park with local residents walking up wanting to be a part of the clear up.
Councillor Nazir also joined the Super heroes and was enthralled with the bags of enthusiasm. ‘It is great to see so many people coming together of all ages with a shared passion to make a difference to their local environment’.

A local resident commented ‘Litter picking teaches our children responsibility and respect for our environment; a great day for all.”

Slough Borough Council Community Project Officer (Slough North) Vinay Vyas said: “The outcome of a clean and tidy park was fantastic but more importantly, seeing the community come together and making new friends.”

Jo Fletcher, Head of Engagement at Osborne said: “Being able to give back to the local people is really important to us and this initiative driven by local people demonstrated how together the community is stronger.”

Paving the Way will be targeting other areas in Manor Park.  For more information or to get involved, contact [email protected] or follow them on Twitter @pavingtheway121
