Osborne appointed on West Thames College

13 March 2008

Osborne has been appointed to redevelop West Thames College in Isleworth, Middlesex. The project consists of pre-construction services worth £1.35m, and ultimate construction works worth over £46m.

West Thames CollegeThe two-stage design and build programme includes three sections of demolition work and also the construction of three new buildings – Blocks A, B and C. Block A will consist of a refectory, library and a sports hall, Block B teaching space and Block C will house college administration on the ground floor and a theatre on the first floor. Blocks A and C are interconnected with an atrium which forms the main entrance to the college. An area freed up by the demolition will form a new sports pitch for the college.

Main demolition works are due to commence in July 2008 and from then on the project will take place on a ‘live’ campus, with the works due to be carried out in phases to minimise disruption and to enable all students to remain in residence on campus.

Construction courses which are run by the college will give students the opportunity to gain work experience on the site, providing a unique experience for students to have a hand in the construction of their own college building.

The new buildings are to have rainwater harvesting and solar panels for heat and water - green technologies which are in-keeping with the overall ethos of the college, where Spring Grove House, the former home of Sir Joseph Banks, the founder of Kew Gardens, can also be found. Bank’s house, a Grade II listed building which sits at the heart of the college, will remain unaffected by the works.
