Osborne starts work on £4.3 million regeneration project in New Cross, London
20 May 2009Osborne has started work on phase 3 of the Kender Estate regeneration in New Cross, South East London, for Hyde Housing Association.
The £4.3 million scheme involves the design and construction of 11 new homes for affordable rent along with 19 flats, 11 of which will be shared ownership and eight for affordable rent. The homes have been designed to EcoHomes Very Good rating and will include high efficiency boilers, thermally enhanced building fabric and low air leakage rates. The flats will feature solar roofing panels, a green roof and storage space for cycles.
Structural Insulated Panel (SIPS), supplied by Innovaré Systems, are being used for the build, clad in brick. These prefabricated timber panels enable the build to be completed quickly and safely, providing homes with high standards of energy efficiency and thermal performance. Residents will benefit from this with greatly reduced energy bills.
Osborne constructed 190 homes as part of phases 1 and 2 of the estate regeneration between March 2002 and July 2006, and in November 2008 it completed the £1.9 million development of 12 affordable homes, two commercial units and a residents’ centre in the same location. The development, Gateway House, is a central component of the regeneration of the New Cross area.
Peter Head, Osborne Homes Division Managing Director said, “The ongoing regeneration of Kender will deliver much needed affordable housing and improve the local area for the benefit of the entire community.”
Ian Hagger, Director of Development at The Hyde Group said: “We are delighted to be on site with phase three of the regeneration work at Kender. The area has seen a remarkable transformation with residents already settled into their new homes in the completed phases and making good use of the community facilities including the community room on the ground floor of the landmark building, Gateway House.”
