RoSPA recognises Osborne safety record
28 April 2009Family-owned construction, civil engineering and property services company, Osborne, has been awarded three gold medals and four gold awards in the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2009. This year, the company will also receive a total of six silver awards in the MORR (Managing Occupational Road Risk) Awards.
RoSPA (the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) awarded the Occupational Health and Safety Awards gold medals to Osborne’s Civil Engineering, Property Services and Construction divisions, while the gold awards went to the Homes and Rail divisions with another going to the Osborne Group as a whole. Osborne’s Rail division also won another gold award for its work on the Network Rail Operational Property Framework South contract.
RoSPA has been at the forefront of the campaign to ensure occupational road risk is managed in the same way as other work related risks, and the MORR awards are intended to reward excellence and encourage improvement in this key area. Civil Engineering, Property Services, Construction, Homes and Rail divisions all won MORR silver awards with a sixth going to the Group as a whole.
The medals and awards mark the sixteenth consecutive year that Osborne’s safety standards have been recognised by the RoSPA Awards scheme, which is one of the UK’s most highly respected occupational safety award programmes.
RoSPA monitors workplace safety across all sectors and works to encourage organisations to attain the highest possible standards of occupational health and safety. The awards are presided over by an independent, expert panel of assessors and a range of performance indicators are taken into account during the assessment process, including accident and ill health statistics, as well as all safety processes, standards and initiatives.
Andrew Osborne, Deputy Chairman comments: “Construction sites can be one of the most hazardous working environments, but they don’t have to be. Safety is part of Osborne’s corporate culture, which is why we are, and will continue to be, such keen participants in the RoSPA awards scheme.
“Road transportation is an inherent part of our working lives which makes the MORR Awards particularly relevant to our industry too. It is a tribute to our staff that their efforts and vigilance have been recognised by these awards.”
The awards will be presented at gala dinners on May 12-14 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel.
