Young Herts is a brand new children's residential service sponsored by the Department of Health. It comprises five children's homes and two adolescent resource centres, along with the refurbishment of eight family support centres. The centres and homes will be modern, utilising the latest technology and offer resources for family care and homely environments for children and young people.
Young Herts is Hertfordshire County Council's first private finance initiative (PFI). The consortium is made up of two shareholders, Osborne and UME Investment which has an existing relationship with Croydon Council for the Caring 4 Croydon elderly care PFI project in Surrey.
Osborne's approach right from the outset has been a commitment to listen, understand and respond, through a series of consultation meetings. Feedback that came from the young people was that they needed to be informed, consulted and participate.
Young Herts' design solutions have been recognised by the Commission for Social Care Inspection.
