The scheme in Yapton, Arundel, West Sussex, involved the regeneration of a former garage site and now offers nine houses and four flats for local residents. This comprises thirteen units with a mixture of flats and houses.
The flats and houses were built using timber frame construction and had an under croft with parking, which was constructed using a steel supporting structure. The houses are narrow to 3.8 metres wide and three-storeys high. On an extremely tight site the rear gardens are only 5 metres long.
The units were built on the back edge of a footway and on boundary lines to east and west. Deliveries were problematic requiring footway closure and a self erecting tower crane. An existing sewer runs through the site, so the flow needed maintaining prior to the diversion and an adjustment to the pile layout was required.
Our 'good neighbour' relations enabled us to access the rear of the site to speed up the construction process, and through careful management minimised any inconvenience to neighbouring businesses.
