The Queensbridge development in Peckham, South London, combines different types of construction to provide 160 houses and apartments for rent, shared ownership and outright sale as well as 5,000m2 of commercial space.
Local registered social landlord Wandle Housing Association and Osborne have worked in partnership together with architect Baily Garner to develop this stunning £25.6m scheme that provides high quality affordable housing in this vibrant city community.
The development consists of both new and refurbished buildings built using different methods of construction. There are two five-storey blocks, one containing 51 units for rent and the other containing 36 apartments for key workers and 21 for private sale. Both blocks have been built in timber fame construction. In front of these blocks are 11 three-storey, 4-bed terraced townhouses for rent, built from structural insulated panels (SIPS) delivered by Innovare Systems Limited.
A third la
rge block has been built using concrete frame construction, and contains 31 apartments for outright sale, commercial space on the ground floor (including an office for Wandle Housing Association) and a spectacular communal roof garden. A further four flats have been built using traditional construction techniques, and the two listed buildings at the front of the site on Queen’s Road have been refurbished and converted into maisonettes. Three further commercial blocks have also been built using concrete frame construction.
Osborne have worked closely with Wandle to pilot several ecological innovations in specific areas across the site including ground source heat pumps, photovoltaic cells, solar collectors and grey water recycling.
The residential buildings were handed over ahead of schedule during spring and summer 2007, and all the commercial units will be finished in September.
