A 'topping out' ceremony took place for the first phase of this project at Heavers Farm on 20 September. Croydon Councillor Margaret Mead was invited to place the last section of structural concrete at Heavers Farm residential care home for older people. The care home is one of four facilities being developed by the Caring4Croydon consortium - of which Osborne is one of three members - to deliver Croydon Council's visionary £38m 'Homes for the Future' programme.
The programme will transform care for older, vulnerable people in the Borough by replacing outdated buildings with modern, state of the art facilities. The four care homes will provide 150 residential and nursing places, 40 extra care flats and 128 day care places.
Heavers Farm is scheduled to open in September 2008 and will offer a 60 place residential unit of care for older people with mental health needs, a 16 place early onset dementia support unit used on a day basis and a 24 place day activities centre to support mentally frail older people living at home.
The second care home, at Coleby Court, is due to open in July 2008, with the final two homes - Addington Heights and Langley Oaks - opening by 2010.
Our experience in delivering PFI schemes can also be evidenced by our exciting Young Herts PFI project where consulting with the young end users earned us top marks.
