Social Responsibility

"We recognise that we have a responsibility to society and the communities within which we work. We aim to engage with and involve those communities in a positive manner." Andrew Osborne, Deputy Chairman

Recycling green waste

Every aspect of Osborne’s business has an impact on the people who work for the company; from our clients, partners and supply chain, to the general public and the wider society.

We take full responsibility for this impact and try to act as a positive force in the construction industry and in the communities where we work. This extends to health and safety, the environment and sustainability, equality and diversity in recruitment and the workplace and community involvement.

Priorities

Social responsibility is a high priority at Osborne. Through our membership of Business in the Community we seek to identify best practice from both inside and outside the construction industry, communicate this throughout the company and develop practices that everyone who works for the company can be proud of.

One of our highest priorities is the health and safety of our workforce, and we work hard to make sure their working conditions are of the highest standard.

Innovation

The impact of our activities on the environment has led us to explore different ways of building, new technologies and materials, and less wasteful construction techniques. We work with clients to ensure their projects are energy efficient and that sustainable or recycled materials are used, and use modern methods of construction to improve efficiency and safety and reduce waste.

In all our activities we are mindful of the cultural diversity of both our workforce and the communities in which we work, and aim to carry out all of our work in a respectful manner. We work with communities, listen to and involve local residents and businesses, and genuinely try to improve the quality of their lives.

We are also engaged in a number of fund-raising activities for local and international charities, and many staff members devote a great deal of time and effort towards this.

In July 2007 a new Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Policy (PDF, 30k) was approved by our Group Board.
