"It's not about buildings, it's about people" Geoffrey Osborne, Founder (1923 -2005)
To understand why Osborne is qualified to provide the construction, civil engineering and property services solutions our clients require, it is helpful to look at how the company has developed since it was founded in 1966 by Geoffrey Osborne.
Osborne was an engineer who brought a sense of courtesy and honesty to the traditionally adversarial world of construction. As the industry has tried to find more collaborative ways of working, for Geoffrey Osborne, who died March 2005 at the age of 81, this came naturally.
Osborne was convinced that construction did not have to thrive on confrontation. The business he founded was built on a philosophy of openness. He believed that if you are straightforward and open in your dealings with people and if you do a good job for them they will always come back to you. Osborne’s philosophy, allied to his determination and sound business acumen, has been the foundation for the Company’s continuing success.
More than forty years on that philosophy continues to underpin the way the business operates today. As the Company has steadily evolved over the past four decades, our driver has always been to understand the aims and objectives of our clients and other stakeholders, then organise ourselves to become valued members of project teams.
As a privately owned business our values and medium and long term perspective allow us to invest in a strategy that focuses clearly on meeting clients’ needs, something that can too easily be missing in a public company.
We concentrate on providing a construction service in the South of England and Midlands and enjoy a reputation for quality and teamwork. We are big enough to have the resources and influence to deliver what clients need, whilst not being so large that we cannot be close to our business and the needs of our clients.
By making a strategic decision to commit ourselves to a smaller number of clients through partnering and framework agreements we are more accurately able to predict our forward workload. This reduces the fluctuations in workload that the industry has historically found difficult to manage and allows us to offer clients the assurance that we will be able to meet the demands of their projects during the years ahead.
We believe there is a clear differentiator between Osborne and the majority of our competitors and that is the calibre and approach of our people. Their technical expertise stems from thorough training coupled with experience in providing technically complex construction solutions.
Of more significance, though, is their personal commitment to the ethos that Geoffrey Osborne created forty years ago and enshrined in our Core Values as defined below.
