Osborne and Suttle Projects are Finalists in British Construction Industry Awards

Osborne along with their supply chain partner, Suttle Projects, has been selected as finalists at this year’s British Construction Industry Awards.

The entry was for the “Creation of the World’s First Underwater Scour Protection Excavator, The Mermaid,” and has been has been shortlisted in the Product Design Innovation Award – Civil Engineering category.

Earlier this year- the Little Mermaid sparked media headlines across the trade press as a world first. Collaboration between Osborne and sheet piling sub contractor Suttle Projects, provided a world-first scour protection solution.  Together they used a bespoke underwater remote control excavator nicknamed ‘The Mermaid’ for the first time commercially at the River Colne, near Staines in Surrey.

Saving time, money and revolutionising the way they work- the Mermaid took Suttle Projects 18 months to build in-house by converting a conventional mini excavator – they removed the cabin and engine and added remote controls so that the lower machine could be used in low headroom spaces and underwater, ideal for river bed work under low bridges.

Finalists will be on announced on 4 June 2015. The 28th annual British Construction Industry Awards take place on 14th October 2015. The awards are the ultimate celebration of the construction industry’s achievements.
