Highly Commended at ICE for Best Infrastructure Project

Osborne has been Highly Commended at the ICE South England Civil Engineering Awards 2016, in the category of Best Infrastructure Award.

It was recognised for its work on Leigh Road Bridge. This was a project which saw the removal of a key transport ‘bottleneck’ at the heart of Slough’s economy to stimulate growth and investment in the region. Furthermore, this project brings several safety improvements for those who work on the estate including wide footpaths, two lane carriageway and cycleway along with transforming the existing listed bridge into a separate cycleway.

In delivering this project, every effort was made to use local suppliers where possible to help sustain the local economy. The design was undertaken by Peter Brett Associates and Tony Gee & Partners nearby in Reading and Esher respectively, Osborne’s ground works supply chain partner was based less than 10 miles from the site and the glass reinforced polymer coping units were manufactured in West Sussex by Design and Display Ltd.

Osborne recognises the importance of the next generation of civil engineers in continuing to develop and maintain the infrastructure of the future. Osborne and customer, SEGRO hosted a site visit for 70 pupils from Lynch Hill Enterprise Academy before relocating to the Slough Aspire Centre where with the assistance of broadcaster Johnny Ball and a number of the project team the pupils learnt how roads and bridges are designed and constructed. They were then set the challenge to design and create their own.
