Osborne Supports National Nest Box Week

Each year between the 14th and 21st February, the British Trust for Ornithology encourages the nation to put up bird boxes in their communities to enhance biodiversity and conservation of birds and wildlife through their National Nest Box Week Campaign.

To celebrate, we took a trip to Northend Community Orchard to see the bird and bat boxes in place which we had created with our customers.

Working with the local young tenants, our Osborne Communities Team led a workshop to construct and stain fifteen rustic nest boxes in our Training Centre. Service users of Greenwich Mencap supported the project by making the flat pack kits out of recycled wood, which the young people could then fix together.

Sharon Clayton, Tenant Involvement Officer, said “This project couldn’t have gone any better! Thank you all so much as the Orchard will flourish with wildlife being encourage to make this place their home.”

The boxes were fitted to the trees of the orchard by expert tree surgeons and it was great to see them in place.
