Tackling Loneliness with Tea

Customer Solutions Advisor Bernadette Obika helped Osborne support a Tea Party and Dance this week, aimed at tackling feelings of loneliness and isolation for over 30 residents of Waltham Forest and Hallmark Care Home in Billericay.

The lively gathering, also supported by London Borough of Waltham Forest, Aston and Hallmark Care Homes, included afternoon tea, live music, dancing, a quiz and raffle.

According to Age UK, over 1 million older people say they always or often feel lonely, whilst nearly half (49%) say that television or pets are their main form of company. Those with high degrees of loneliness are also more likely to develop health problems including Alzheimer’s, which is why events such as these are so important.

Bernadette said: “It was a privilege to assist in bringing joy, happiness, laughter and love to our elderly folk.

“It was really amazing being in their midst, observing their faces light up enjoying all the activities laid out for them.”

Osborne Communities Head of Engagement Jo Fletcher said: “Supporting this group always brings out the ‘feel good factor’ in our Community Investment team as we experience first-hand the real tangible benefits of people coming together and the appreciation of one another’s company.”
