Osborne holds Graduate Day

Osborne recently held a Graduate day to help graduate engineers, trainees and work place students, share, learn and network.

The graduates used this as an opportunity to share their progress on the route to chartership, getting some advice from colleagues who already reached it or in the process of doing so and also to encourage new starters to start this journey.

The graduates spent the morning on a visit to the Thames Tideway Tunnel which is often referred to as “the super sewer”. This is a new (25 km) tunnel which will run from Ealing in west London to Newham in the east of London and will cost £5billion.

In the afternoon, graduates attended presentations from Osborne employees. This began with a session covering recent Osborne projects which involved demolition and replacement of two road bridges in the South East.

This was followed by a talk about her year as chair of the ICE London Student and Graduate Committee by Safia Whitwham. She was also presented ICE ‘Graduate of the Year’ award by Lawrie Quinn, Chair of ICE London.

Finally there was an interesting talk on Quality Management, its purpose and a team game with tennis balls to demonstrate continuous improvement.

Malcolm Attrill, Engineering Manager said: “Our Graduate Days are a good opportunity for young professionals to connect and learn about various roles available to them at Osborne. It’s particularly pleasing to see many new faces this time as our scheme continue to grow.”
