Biodiversity Enhancements at Hollingdean

At Hollingdean Road in Brighton, the Construction Business is building a project which is a 192 unit student and 8 number affordable housing development for customer “DJ Two.”

Well done to all involved in this great project for making the shortlist of the CIRIA Big Biodiversity Challenge Awards 2018; for both the Temporary and Champion Awards.

The biodiversity enhancement focused on supporting Swifts which are a threatened species and a “Species of Importance” in the Brighton and Hove Local Biodiversity Action Plan.

The team invited the RSPB to site to see how the project could help the population of Swifts in the area and as a result, 21 planters introducing 10 new species of plant were installed. The plants attract insects that the Swifts feed on, and information boards also detailed how the local community could help Swifts. Permanent Swift boxes have also been proposed in the final design. Congratulations and thank you to all involved, for supporting threatened species and providing a habitat for many other species too.

Michael Dixon is the Champion nominee for his dedication and hard work to deliver this biodiversity enhancement alongside his busy commercial role.

The Biodiversity Champion Award is won by public vote, so if you would like to vote for Michael, please follow this link: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/MXHPWG9
