Osborne opens its doors as it offers a behind the scenes look at Winchester and Hobhouse Court

Osborne is opening its sites at the West Downs Development for the University of Winchester and Hobhouse Court in Central London to the public as part of a week-long event aimed at attracting young people into a career in construction.

Open Doors Week 2019 is delivered by Build UK, in partnership with the CITB from the 18-23 March. Contractors open live construction sites to the public to go ‘behind the scenes’ and see the huge variety of roles that contribute to the construction industry.

Andrew Osborne, Chairman at Osborne said: “We are delighted to be participating in Open Doors once again and particularly excited to open the West Downs Development and Hobhouse Court to the public. It is a great platform for us to showcase to young people the variety of skills, knowledge and collaboration needed to successfully deliver construction projects.”

Dean Carpenter, Lecturer in Construction Crafts, said: “A huge thank you to Osborne for hosting 19 students from Basingstoke College of Technology. The site visit encouraged our students to see past the traditional trades they learn about at college. Also by having trainees and apprentices that have progressed from the ‘shop floor’ to positions of responsibility available on the day to chat was also invaluable, as it highlighted the career progression that is possible to our students. It was fantastic for our students to see the content of their course brought to life and to make the hours of theory they study feel tangible.”
