Social Start up Saturdays in Slough

At Osborne, we are avid supporters of local businesses, and in particular, helping them to develop and be successful. This in turn enhances economic and social development in the local area.

Working with Slough Borough Council, we supported their ‘StartUp Saturday’ workshop at The Curve in Slough which was open to local residents looking at starting up their own business.  Over a period of 6 weeks, local start-ups received free access to business mentoring designed to provide them with the tools to test, plan and launch their own business.

The workshop, hosted by our Head of Engagement, Jo Fletcher, focused on the benefits of marketing through the use of various Social Media platforms.  The presentation promoted the value and audience reach, which have grown rapidly in the last few years, and are crucial to businesses being successful in the modern digital age.

People can often be afraid of the online world and unsure of how best to use social media to their benefit, particularly when setting up new businesses. Part of the workshop was about transforming individuals’ perception and use of technology with social media.  Delegates were shown the steps on how to set up social media accounts, how to share news, updates of their businesses and engage with other local companies.

The event was a great success, and there was a lot of shared learning and interactive engagement from all of the attendees. One delegate commented ‘Wow, I’ve learnt so much and can’t wait to get started’.

Since the event, we have had further contact from a number of attendees who are interested in further mentoring opportunities with Osborne.  We are looking forward to working with these businesses and helping to make them a success in the local area.
