60 Seconds With… Dean Woods

What does safety mean in 10 words?

Not injuring our people, making sure their families aren’t affected.

What do you think of safety in the rail industry?

Excellent, a robust system is in place as long as everyone adheres to and respects the rules.

How can safety be improved?

Communication – if we’re not told what needs improving how can we improve it?

Why do people continue to get hurt on rail sites?

Fatigue, complacency, workload, pressure amongst others which could all be avoided with better communication.

What more can be done?

Communication, training, reducing complacency- i.e. regular and extensive random site visits day and night.

Do you think we can achieve everyone home safe every day?

We can continue to improve and minimise risks so hopefully one day, yes.
