A Quality Product completed ahead of Programme- Nazeing New Road Bridge

The Osborne team have been working to refurbish the 110-year-old Nazeing New Road Bridge over the River Lea Navigation, and have recently completed painting works to allow the road lane closure to be removed over two weeks earlier than planned.

The phased work included a comprehensive hanging scaffolding and encapsulation system.  This was installed to allow grit blasting and painting of the edge parapets whilst leaving room for the longboats and barges to pass safely beneath the bridge with ease.

A lane closure was installed over the bridge to allow the works to be completed to one parapet before the whole system was switched to the other side to complete works to the other parapet.

A new security system was used to monitor the site and plant.  The team also introduced a LEAN planning board for their month look-ahead programming; which clearly allowed efficiencies to be identified as the road over the bridge is fully open more than two weeks earlier than planned.

As part of the overall refurbishment, designs and planning are also on-going to allow new ballast walls to be installed at either end of the bridge, along with replacement of the bearings.

Thank you to the whole team for coming together to provide top quality workmanship and make the site a safe and rewarding place to be.

This has not escaped the attention of our customer who has praised both the quality of the completed scheme and our community engagement;”Both Phase 4A and 4B painting activities have been completed to a very high quality.  I am very impressed with the performance of all the site staff, particularly around site set up and safety.  Feedback from members of the public has been very positive when compared to other schemes.  I believe this is a result of the commitment to communicate and build working relationships with local businesses and residents.  Please keep up the good work.”
