Inspiring future generations in Dacorum

With a current skills shortage in the industry, one of Osborne’s key aims through our work in the community is to inspire and encourage future generations to pursue a career in the Construction industry.

Over the last twelve months, we have been working in partnership with West Herts College, and have recently welcomed three of their students through our doors on work experience placements.

We were happy to have Tom Calder, Terri-Lee Stent and Bradley Smith attend our offices over a period of eight weeks at our offices in Hemel Hempstead. We designed a tailored programme for each of the students to follow, where they spent time with various teams. These included the Planners, Call Centre, RLOs, Community Investment Team, Surveyors and the Warehouse Management Team. As the programme was specifically built for each student, it meant that individually, they got the most out of each section, enabling them to consider what career they would like pursue.

Tom Calder, one of the students said:
“Thank you so much for the work placement, it was fantastic. After I had completed the programme, I applied for an apprenticeship and was successful in getting it, having the work experience placement on my CV was definitely an advantage!”

Terri-Lee Stent, said:
“Thank you to all of you at Osborne for everything you have done over the past eight weeks. It’s been really nice getting to know everyone and learn about all of the opportunities available in the industry”

Finally, Bradley Smith, said:
“I really enjoyed working with the surveying team. I experienced what type of calls come through the contact centre and how they are logged and dealt with. It’s been a great work experience programme; thank you for organising”

We wish the students all the best for the future and look forward to working with West Herts College on further work experience placements.
