Hemel Hempstead School Employability Day 2021

Osborne has partnered with Connect Dacorum to facilitate Employability Workshops for local schools. Our Community Investment Manager, Sarah Askey, delivered a workshop to Year 10 students from Hemel Hempstead School. These sessions were held virtually to adhere to current Covid restrictions. Understanding the challenges a virtual session could present, our content was designed to be engaging and helpful.

During these challenging times, we value the importance of keeping young people stimulated, creating a positive environment. We shared with our student group how to create and enhance their current CVs as well as providing the tools to showcase themselves in their applications. The group also learned how to identify aspects of a job description to add to their applications. The second half of the workshop focused on developing their interview techniques. They were partnered with fellow students and completed mock interviews with each other. This enabled them to put into practice all their learning from the day.

Over the past 15 years, 2,555 students have benefitted from the Employability Days organised by Connect Dacorum and Osborne. We are proud to be part of such a successful initiative that helps build employability skills across future generations.

Sue Bond, Careers Co-ordinator at Hemel Hempstead School said: ‘We had a very successful morning of virtual sessions with employers from the local area, leading students through CV writing and interview skills. Support from companies such as Osborne is crucial to schools especially at a time when employability skills are such an important consideration in the recruitment process.’
