Topping out Ceremony at Andover Estate Phase 1, Islington Council

The Andover Estate Phase 1 Project reached a key milestone in its construction on Wednesday 19th October, as the project team and guests from Islington Council celebrated its topping out ceremony.

The traditional celebration marks the build reaching its highest point and the assembled witnessed speeches, a cake cutting and Chairman, Andrew Osborne presenting Cllr Diarmaid Ward with an engraved ceremonial trowel

Located near Finsbury Park Station, the project consists of 36 affordable homes across three sites, plus commercial space and public realm works. This is the first in a four-stage regeneration programme for Islington Council.

Andrew Osborne said: “Osborne have a long history of delivering affordable housing and are delighted to be working with Islington Council and to be involved in the construction of these new homes. Our purpose as an organisation is to provide sustainable, intelligently designed spaces that improve people’s lives and make a difference to local communities.”

Cllr Diarmaid Ward, Islington Council’s Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Finance, Planning and Performance, said: “Everyone deserves a safe, decent, and genuinely affordable place to call home – this is an absolutely vital part of our work to create a more equal Islington.

“I am delighted that this development will provide 36 much-needed new homes for social rent on the Andover Estate. Council homes change lives – we need them more than ever in the midst of a housing crisis and a cost-of-living emergency.”
