Osborne celebrates a week of successful industry work placements from Langley College

Osborne welcomed a group of students from Slough for a week of trades work experience with the aim to build confidence and share skills knowledge for our sector.

It was great to see the enthusiasm bounce through the door from these young adults studying construction at Langley College, eager to learn about their chosen  study industry.

Once they arrived, after a site safety induction carried out by Osbornes Service Delivery Manager, Nathan Smith, students were introduced to our teams and shown around the office. We explained how the different teams contribute to the effectiveness and success of our Property Services business.

The students were allocated to different mentors based on their area of specialisation, such as plumbing, carpentry and multi-trade. They were able to closely interact with our experienced Operatives during the week and were ‘shown the ropes’ for various jobs carried out in Slough homes. From the outset, the students had a positive attitude and were willing to ask questions and learn. The week-long work experience helped the group of young learners understand the service provided.

At the end of the week, we had a small ceremony to recognise the students’ efforts and dedication.  Dedicated tutors from Langley College joined us to present  certificates of achievement and gift vouchers. Nathan Smith very candidly spoke about how not only the students benefitted from this experience, but we were also pleased to have them with us. He conveyed to the students and the college, that it was refreshing to see young adults so passionate about a future in Property Services and invited them to an offer of longer work experience during the summer holidays.

Jo Fletcher, Head of Engagement commented: ‘Work experience is a great opportunity to build confidence in young adults as well as to get used to the routines of work.  It’s also great for the wellbeing of our people, who feel good for giving back to our next generation’.

Student feedback:

Everything was perfect. I enjoyed meeting new people every day on jobs. I worked with 3 different trades and all of them helped me learn a lot of new things.

 College feedback:

I just wanted to email you to say a big ‘thank you’ for accommodating one of our Level 1 Construction Students last week, for their Industry Placement Work Experience.  I have been catching up with our students and collecting their feedback and it’s been great to hear of all their experiences.
