Apprenticeships and Training – Building on Success

An important aspect of addressing the skills crisis is to broaden our recruitment and provide new career pathways into our industry.

We currently have seven students from the University of Brighton going through the Osborne Construction Trainee programme and in early December, three of these trainees represented Osborne at the university’s Built Environment Careers Fair.  This is the fourth consecutive year that we have attended this event.

Janet, Rob and Eline spoke to students about Osborne and the roles we have for graduates and placement students.

Janet said: “It was a great opportunity for me. Two years ago I was in the same position – searching for a graduate job at the same university careers fair.  I was lucky enough to get my current role on the trainee program. I enjoyed meeting enthusiastic students and sharing the experience of working for Osborne.”

We are primarily seeking students who share our company values, and who would benefit from our trainee programme. Following the fair we interviewed four potential candidates and made offers to two people to join the trainee programme.

Our Commitment

We are part of The 5% Club, and we’ve exceeded that commitment with 10% of our construction business workforce currently in trainee schemes.

Through new people, new skills and different backgrounds we are building a successful future. We are widening our recruitment base, addressing the skills gap, and providing opportunities for people to build a career in an exciting and dynamic sector.
