Building Bridges

Recently, Malcolm Attrill, Engineering Manager at Osborne gave a guest lecture to first year civil engineering students at the University of Portsmouth.

The subject was bridge building and the many methods we use- from simple in-situ concrete bridges to complex bridge launches over motorways or railways such as Leigh Road Bridge.

Malcolm also did an interactive session at the end of the lecture to get views on how one of our current projects (M27 Romsey Road Bridge) could be built, and the hope is that some of the students can visit the site next year to see it in action.

This lecture was part of our long association with the University, as Malcolm did his degree and MSc there.

Osborne have since returned to the University to interview 11 engineering students and five quantity surveying students for Industrial Placements with Osborne next year.

There were several strong applicants and Osborne have made three placement offers.

Osborne already have three University of Portsmouth students doing year-long placements with them,  another four who are being sponsored through the final stages of their studies, plus a Graduate Engineer doing a part-time PhD so all looking good for the next generation!
