What can SmartWaste do for you?

Kirsty Dunne, Group Sustainability Manager at the developer, builder, offsite manufacturer and property maintenance business Osborne discusses the benefits of SmartWaste

Osborne has used SmartWaste since 2016. It is a best in market sustainability platform for the built environment. Supporting net zero carbon, circularity or social value objectives it captures biodiversity, energy, materials, transport, waste, water, social value and CCS data. At Osborne we use it to capture information and live report on our environmental performance for primarily waste, water, energy and materials, allowing us to monitor and take action to meet our sustainability goals.

Both our clients and the government are demanding more environmental reporting, the tool does this efficiently. The Smartwaste team can also produce bespoke reports.

It collates all our project/ contract environmental impacts in one place, to easily compare project performance and produce detailed reports for improved environmental management. Each project has a live dashboard, if the data added is up to date, complete and correct it is easy to track your performance visually.

Detailed information on waste movements and waste management companies including licence and permit information and FSC certificates are held within the system, which demonstrates our legal compliance.

You can set BREEAM and customised targets, to effortlessly track your performance on the dashboard. Keeping to target can save time, money and reduce our environmental impact.

Smartwaste modules align with BREEAM and can produce automated reports for the BREEAM assessor.

We can link up with our supply chain accounts, the organisation inputs the building site data relevant to them, which will appear in the clients/ principal contractors to analyse. This function results in quicker and more accurate supply chain reporting.

The Smartwaste Application Programme Interface (API) allows contractors and third-party software applications to securely transfer waste, materials and associated transport information automatically to Smartwaste. This increases the data precision, yields a faster data entry process and saves our time.

The Site Waste Management Plan function supports preparing for circularity, prioritising reduction and reuse and meeting the Planning Authorities’ need for comprehensive Lifecycle Assessment (LCA).

Biodiversity & ecological management can be simplified, by entering the key site data to automatically calculate how project enhancement will improve your ecological impact.

The carbon reporting function can instantly demonstrate your carbon footprint from your waste and energy use and waste production. For on site fuel use you can hotspot down to the type of equipment. The materials embodied carbon report highlights the effect of the specified material, waste produced, material transport and staff/ contractor travel.

The Smartwaste tool has lots of capabilities, please contact the SHE team to discuss how it can be set up to best support your project aims.
