Typical care homes may no longer meet the needs of an ageing population with complex medical needs. Care providers want to offer more than care and companionship, including facilities for people with additional needs including dementia and Alzheimer’s. The design of these buildings should consider opportunities for community facilities to be included, while being energy efficient and easy to maintain.
In Greenwich we created an over 60s HAPPI (Housing our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation) building. This successfully balanced the accommodation needs of residents with the asset management needs of the care home owners.
