Business as Usual in Havant as Works to Ease Congestion Stop for Christmas

Work on a scheme to ease congestion at the Asda Roundabout in Havant will stop for the busy Christmas period.

Since the end of October, Osborne has been working on vegetation clearance and managing the moving of public utilities ahead of the main construction.

These works will wind down as of Friday 19 December and start again from Monday 5 January.

Asda roundabout experiences significant congestion, particularly during peak times, impacting on local businesses in the area. With the proposed new employment development at Dunsbury Hill Farm and major housing and business development underway at Waterlooville, traffic is set to increase. The roundabout will provide one of the main junctions on the road network for traffic to these new developments.

The Hampshire County Council scheme will significantly increase the size of the junction, and add traffic signal controls on two approach roads to the roundabout. The Purbrook Way approach from the A3(M) will be upgraded to two lanes in each direction. The scheme also includes the provision of safe pedestrian and cycle crossing facilities and improvements at the Park House Farm Way junction.

Construction of the scheme is planned be completed by December 2015.

Councillor Seán Woodward, Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment said: “We have been working closely with businesses and residents in the area of these works and we have ensured that shoppers and businesses will not be delayed by the improvement works to the Asda Roundabout, so it will be business as usual in the area this Christmas. “One of the key challenges for economic growth is to ensure high quality transport links for businesses to enable existing firms to expand and to attract new organisations to the area. These improvements at the roundabout will help unlock economic growth potential by supporting the new Dunsbury Hill Farm development, while reducing congestion in the area and improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists. We will plan all works to minimise disruption, and the roundabout will remain open throughout the construction work. Information will be updated regularly so people can plan their journeys.”

Weekly surgeries for residents and businesses are held by Osborne every Wednesday at 11am in the site office located in the field between Hulbert Road and Purbrook Way east. The first one after Christmas will be on Wednesday 7 January 2015.
