Royal Holloway University set out to create a dynamic inclusive new home for their Electronic Engineering department, one which would honour its commitment to the art of science and engineering and celebrate the achievements of alumni, Beatrice Shilling, by encouraging increased female student participation.

“The building lives up to all of the high expectations and demands put upon it by the University. As the building is now becoming full of academics, research teams and students it is working perfectly. Staff and students love the environment which is flexible, cheerful and inclusive. A highly diverse electronic engineering department has formed with well above average numbers of female students and female staff – Mission Accomplished!

Professor Paul Hogg, University Vice Principal and Project Sponsor

“The ‘Higher Education Funding Council for England’ partly funded building supports Royal Holloway’s objectives of achieving gender equality, is extremely popular on campus and already houses approximately 30% of female students. The client, end users are extremely fond of the building, of which completely fulfilled the brief and exceeded with regard to quality of finishes”.
