CECA Award Win for Osborne Female Graduate!

Congratulations to Safia Whitwham, a Graduate Site Engineer from the Osborne Infrastructure business on winning Most Promising Trainee Civil Engineer at the CECA (Civil Engineering Contractors Association) Awards.
Safia received the award from Osborne’s  Group Marketing and Communications Director, Richard King.

Richard is CECA Southern Chairman and was thrilled to present Safia with her award; “The Most Promising Trainee Civil Engineer Category is the most hotly contested prize at the annual awards. Whilst I was not part of the judging panel I am aware there was a formidable breadth and depth of high quality nominations and as Chairman of CECA Southern I was immensely proud to present Safia with her award.”

Of her award, Safia commented; “I was so surprised to win this award but it has been amazing to get recognition for all my hard work and commitment. I am extremely passionate about Civil Engineering and I try to show that not only within the business but also through the extracurricular activities I do with the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE). One of the reasons I am particularly excited about winning this award is that I can be a positive role model for other female engineers; the number of females in engineering still remains disappointingly low, with the UK coming in as one the worst rate in Europe at less than 10%.”

“‘My main focus at the moment is on preparing to sit my review for ICE Chartership next year. I am also involved in improving inductions for the Osborne Infrastructure business as part of the Infrastructure Improvement Team (ITT) which is great to be a part of. Finally, I am managing the development of the ‘Wheel of Wellbeing’ which is a new initiative on the Gade Valley site where we are looking wider than Health and Safety at all aspects of wellbeing. With all this on top of my normal day job I am staying very busy! I am very determined and hopefully all my efforts will help me to deliver on ‘most promising’ and become a top quality Civil Engineer and Leader within the business in the near future.”
