Day 8 of our 12 Repairs of Christmas looks at avoiding Slips and Trips

We never quite know what the British weather will decide to do, but on Day 8 of our twelve repairs of Christmas, we look at tips to avoid slips and trips whilst you are out and about in the cold and icy weather.
In really cold weather, pavements and roads may become icy and hazardous.  It isn’t always your landlord’s responsibility to clear snow and ice, so take extra care when walking in these conditions.

If you choose to clear snow or ice yourself, make it easier by doing so in the morning before it has been compacted down by people walking on it.

You can spread salt on the area you have cleared to prevent re-freezing overnight. You can use ordinary table or dishwasher salt – a tablespoon for each square metre you clear should work.

Don’t use water; it could refreeze and turn into black ice which is invisible and very slippery.
