Osborne Starts Hertfordshire Bridge Repair Work
Osborne is working on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council to undertake essential Napsbury Lane bridge repair works.
This work will begin on the Napsbury Lane Bridge, which crosses the A414 between Park Street roundabout and London Colney roundabout, later this month. These repairs have to place now because of essential repairs to the Napsbury Lane bridge to address corrosion, which impacts the integrity of the bridge’s structure.
In order to carry out the works, a lane in both directions (eastbound and westbound) will be required to provide adequate working space and appropriate safety clearances. The works will take place behind an encapsulation scaffold to allow the hydro-demolition and repair of the bridge’s concrete surface to safely take place. The structural repairs which are being carried out now will address the current signs of deterioration and are expected to last for approximately a further 60 years.

Terry Douris, Cabinet Member for Highways, said:
“While there is never a good time to do works of this nature, the bridge will soon be coming to a point where its safety might be compromised and we have a duty to make sure that all road users are safe. We’ve arranged for the start of this £500,000 scheme to take place during the school holidays to help lessen traffic delays for people as much as possible. But with essential works of this nature, it’s unfortunately inevitable that road users will experience some delays.”

Where possible, road users are advised to avoid this section of the A414, plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
