HEALTH

Osborne has delivered successful healthcare construction projects for many trusts including Newham University Hospital NHS, Luton and Dunstable Hospital NHS, and Hertfordshire Partnership NHS. Through this experience, we have an intimate knowledge of key stakeholder expectations, health specifications and compliant processes – all crucial for a successful project delivery.

Most projects have been procured through a two-stage tender process, with Osborne completing the design. Working collaboratively with our customer and the whole team ensures that the scheme achieves best value while meeting all critical project objectives.

Throughout health projects we are acutely aware of the need to manage the following issues:

  • Site access.
  • Liaising with the live hospital environment.
  • Impacts on neighbours, residents and local businesses.
  • Operating within a compact environment.

In 2015 our Kingfisher Court project in Hertfordshire was awarded three Building Better Health Care Awards: Best Mental Health Building; the Grand Prix prize; and Best External Environment. It also won 2015 Project of the Year from the Design in Mental Health Network.

“Thank you from all staff on Rainbow Ward to your hard working and dedicated team. Patients and staff are so much happier in their new working environment and it has made such a difference to moral on the ward.” – Sophia Touzani, Rainbow Ward Manager, Newham University Hospital Trust

Hospital Construction Project

Primary Care

We work collaboratively with forward looking estates teams to achieve their wider ambitions and deliver better and more efficient healthcare services to their community. A clear asset strategy and development programme can help meet these challenges by delivering higher performing facilities in more appealing environments, with greater cost and management predictability.

We are experienced in GP surgery construction and healthcare centres that are focal points in the community, with additional facilities such as pharmacies and specialist clinics. On one project we suggested constructing ten flats on the top of a GP centre. This gave the building the civic presence the planners were looking for and helped with affordability.

Acute Care

Patient safety and quality of experience are paramount when carrying out construction works within a live hospital environment. We understand the importance of open and honest communication with all stakeholders.

Our attention to the needs of both the estates and healthcare teams helps our customers achieve their wider ambitions whilst maintaining the highest standards of patient care. We have carried out repeat work at several hospitals, including Luton and Dunstable, Newham University, Lister and Watford General; modernising and upgrading facilities as well as constructing brand new wards and laboratories.

Specialist Health Care Construction

Specialist Care

Our specialist care construction and development experience includes state-of-the-art mental health facilities for Hertfordshire NHS and Southampton Primary Care Trust. We have also built a new pathology centre for the Royal Marsden and new facial surgery facilities for the William Harvey Hospital.

On the award winning Kingfisher Court Adult Mental Health Unit we worked with the stakeholders to design a safe environment that did not feel institutional and met the exacting standards needed in mental health care. This building is the largest healthcare project in Europe to be built using structurally insulated panels (SIPs).

Creating Emergency Ward Capacity

The Covid-19 outbreak has demonstrated the need for temporary extra capacity at times of emergency, to maintain an overflow capability instead of remote facilities adapted from the main use. The flexible modular system that has been developed provides a fast and cost-effective way to manage demand more effectively.
