The Mercers and Osborne Celebrate Significant Milestone

The Mercers’ Company and Osborne are delighted to be celebrating a significant project milestone at the Mercers Yard development in the heart of Covent Garden.

To mark reaching the highest point of the building, a traditional Topping Out ceremony was held on Wednesday 9 December. Alongside the project team, the ceremony was attended by senior members from both Osborne and representatives from the Mercers Company, including Osborne Chairman, Andrew Osborne, and current Master Mercer, Tim Haywood.

Andrew Osborne explained at the event “The work on the £20million Mercers Yard development is set to further enhance the vibrant atmosphere of Covent Garden. This will include the refurbishment of a traditional warehouse into a flagship retail store, as well as the construction of three new buildings offering retail and restaurant space, which have been designed by Ian Ritchie Architects with Development Management by Hanover Cube.”

These buildings will transform the streetscape, opening out into a new public space. The upper floors of the buildings will also form 24 apartments, offering residents the opportunity to live in the exciting, cultural hub of Covent Garden.

Master Mercer, Tim Haywood said “We are delighted that work on Mercers’ Yard has reached this important point and are very grateful to all those who have contributed to the project so far. The Mercers’ Yard development continues the Company’s longstanding involvement in Covent Garden and its commitment to improving its holdings in the area for the benefit of all.”

Simon Parham, Osborne Construction Director said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in the Mercers Yard project for reaching this significant milestone; the Topping Out ceremony has been a brilliant way to mark the occasion. Osborne is thrilled to be working alongside the Mercers Company, Ian Ritchie Architects and Hanover Cube to redevelop the site for local residents and tourists alike to enjoy.”
